Om Sri Skandhashramam Temple

Om Sri Skandasramam in Chennai is a major spiritual center renowned for its massive deities and for being the first temple in India dedicated to Goddess Ugraprathyangira Devi. Established by Sathguru Srimath Santhananda Swamigal and consecrated on June 24, 1999, the temple serves as a powerful center of devotion and Vedic worship. Lord Murugan, worshipped here as Sri Swaminatha Swami, is the presiding deity, and his majestic 12-foot idol stands in the sanctum sanctorum accompanied by his vahana, the peacock. In a rare architectural alignment, the Murugan shrine directly faces the sanctum of Goddess Bhuvaneshwari, symbolizing the divine bond between mother and son and believed to bless devotees with spiritual wisdom. The temple complex uniquely houses representations of Murugan from all six sacred abodes (Arupadai Veedu), enabling devotees to offer prayers to all forms of the Lord in one place.

The temple is especially famous for its colossal and rare idols, including the 9.5-foot, 20-ton Maha Sahasralingam containing 1,008 lingams (1,007 carved within the main structure), the 18-foot Panchaloha Sudarshana Chakrathalwar featuring Sudarshana Murthy on the front and Lakshmi Narasimha on the reverse, and the 12-foot Veera Sarabeswarar positioned opposite Goddess Prathyangira Devi. Large-scale idols of Panchamukha Hanuman and Panchamukha Heramba Ganapathy further enhance the grandeur of the temple. A special Prathyangira Sarabha Soolini Koti Homam is performed daily for world welfare, and to maintain a meditative atmosphere, the temple does not allow the burning of camphor or conduct individual archanas. Annadhanam (free lunch) is served daily at noon to all devotees.

இத்தலத்தின் பிரதான மூர்த்தி ஸ்ரீ ஸ்வாமிநாத ஸ்வாமி (முருகப்பெருமான்) ஆவார். 12 அடி உயரத்தில் கம்பீரமாக எழுந்தருளியுள்ள முருகப்பெருமான், தனது வாஹனமான மயிலுடன் அருள்பாலிக்கிறார். அபூர்வமான கட்டிட அமைப்பில், முருகன் சன்னதி நேரடியாக அன்னை புவனேஸ்வரி சன்னதியை எதிர்நோக்கி அமைந்துள்ளது. இது தாய்–மகன் தெய்வீக உறவை எடுத்துரைப்பதுடன், பக்தர்களுக்கு ஞானமும் ஆன்மீக அருளும் வழங்கும் என நம்பப்படுகிறது. மேலும், முருகப்பெருமானின் அறுபடை வீடுகளின் வடிவங்களும் ஒரே வளாகத்தில் அமைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளதால், பக்தர்கள் அனைத்து திருத்தலங்களின் அருளையும் ஒரே இடத்தில் பெறும் வாய்ப்பு பெறுகின்றனர்.

இந்த ஆலயம் மிகப்பெரிய மற்றும் அரிய சிலைகளுக்காகவும் பிரசித்தி பெற்றது. 9.5 அடி உயரமும் சுமார் 20 டன் எடையும் கொண்ட மகா சஹஸ்ரலிங்கம் 1,008 லிங்கங்களை கொண்டுள்ளது; அவற்றில் 1,007 லிங்கங்கள் பிரதான லிங்கத்தின் உட்பகுதியில் செதுக்கப்பட்டுள்ளன. 18 அடி உயரமுடைய பஞ்சலோக சுதர்சன சக்கரத்தாழ்வார் சிலையின் முன்புறத்தில் சுதர்சன மூர்த்தியும், பின்னுபுறத்தில் லக்ஷ்மி நரசிம்மரும் அபூர்வ வடிவில் காட்சியளிக்கின்றனர். 12 அடி உயர வீர சரபேஸ்வரர் சிலை பிரத்யங்கிரா தேவிக்கு நேரெதிராக அமைந்துள்ளது. பஞ்சமுக ஆஞ்சநேயர் மற்றும் பஞ்சமுக ஹேரம்ப கணபதி போன்ற பெரிய அளவிலான சிலைகளும் ஆலயத்தின் மகத்துவத்தை மேலும் உயர்த்துகின்றன.

உலக நலனுக்காக தினமும் பிரத்யங்கிரா சரப சூலினி கோடி ஹோமம் நடத்தப்படுகிறது. தியான அமைதியை பேணுவதற்காக கற்பூரம் ஏற்றுதல் மற்றும் தனிப்பட்ட அர்ச்சனைகள் நடத்துதல் இத்தலத்தில் அனுமதிக்கப்படவில்லை. மேலும், தினமும் மதியம் அனைத்து பக்தர்களுக்கும் அன்னதானம் (இலவச மதிய உணவு) வழங்கப்படுகிறது.
